Vinkara cultivates vineyards on 650 acres of its total 850-acre estate. Located in Kalecik, these vineyards benefit from a highly valuable region in Anatolia in terms of climate and geographical features. Situated just south of Central Anatolia, at an altitude of approximately 650 meters above sea level, the vineyards offer high acidity and rich aroma potential due to the region’s unique climate and geographical conditions. The mountains to the west, rising over 2000 meters, along with the Kızılırmak River, create a special microclimate in Kalecik. These mountains facilitate airflow towards the plains during sunny periods and collect rainfall during spring and autumn, providing a natural water source for the vineyards. These climatic conditions are similar to those found in regions where some of the world’s finest grape varieties are grown.
Kalecik’s most prominent grape variety is Kalecik Karası, which takes its name from the region. All these factors create the ideal synergy of soil, climate, and grape variety (terroir) for Kalecik Karası production. Vinkara dedicates 60% of its vineyard area to different clones of Kalecik Karası, suitable for various production techniques. Prioritizing the cultivation of indigenous Anatolian grape varieties, Vinkara also grows Hasandede, Öküzgözü, Boğazkere, and Narince alongside Kalecik Karası.
Vinkara operates a state-of-the-art facility with a 1,350 square meter production area, a 200 square meter bottling facility, and a 360 square meter oak barrel and storage area, with a total production capacity of approximately 1.3 million liters. The facility is equipped with the latest technology in the wine industry, and, when necessary, grapes can be cooled between 4-18°C in a 100-square meter cold storage. The grape sorting process, the first stage of production, is meticulously carried out on a selection belt by experts.
The sorted grapes are processed using either a horizontal hydraulic press, ideal for producing high-quality sparkling base wines, or an inert gas pneumatic press, which preserves aromas and is used for crafting premium white and rosé wines. Alternatively, grapes are crushed and transferred via monopump into 304 and 316 stainless steel fermentation tanks equipped with cooling systems designed for winemaking, with capacities ranging across 72 tanks. Following tirage, the naturally sparkling wines produced using the “Methode Traditionnelle” are aged for a minimum of two years in an automatically climate-controlled aging area with a capacity of 200,000 bottles. Afterward, the bottles undergo remuage using pupitres and gyropalettes and are disgorged on a semi-automatic line with a capacity of 500 bottles per hour, where corks and wire hoods are applied before the bottles are transferred to the aging area.
Our bottling line has a capacity of 3,000 bottles per hour, with a filtration system for bottle washing installed at the start of the line. The wines aged in our French oak barrels are stored in our underground, climate- and humidity-controlled cellar with a capacity of approximately 75,000 liters.
